ode to an autumn bicycle ride

just returned on a bike colored champagne
heard the leaves crackling happily
spied burning bushes flaming scarlet
accented by brilliant oranges and yellows, oaks and maples
saw a bare tree with a lone nest perched precariously
passed endless rows of dry, rustling corn stalks
flew down a hill, trying to use my old "backward" brakes
spotted a whole football team arranged like chess pieces
felt the sun smiling while beating down
laughed when I passed a sign saying 73 degrees
sensed the wind at my back

some call this indian summer
i call it autumn in full glory
seasoned by the Most Creative
enjoyed by this audience of one
on a bicycle colored champagne
